Going OK

15km around Chittaway Point. Turned a corner, to avoid hitting a tree, metaphorically speaking :-). Ran with good rhythym - felt like the elite distance runner of the 90s during this run.

(*I could've told you this would sound wanky when I typed it, but selfishly I didn't :-D *)

Sunday 30 December 2007

Rose to a beautiful morning at 5.30am, but felt like sh*t. Ran for an hour to O'Bah State Forest, could not get out of first gear. Felt like death warmed up. Met fellow club runners at Palmdale, did 20km loop by myself. Not attacking my long runs just yet. Still just spending time on my feet. 2hr30min all up.

(*It'll do*)

Saturday 29 December pm

4 k up to Chittaway Point
=:3k 8.48, 3 min recovery
=: 2k 5.47, 1.5 min recovery
=:1k 2.46,
4 k down

Happy with session, considering 10 weeks ago I was running k reps on the same course in 3.10. Now have just have to get some food for long run tomorrow.

(*and DO the long run*).

Thursday pm Session

20 min up/down, 5 x 1km on road at Di's.
3.01, 3.03, 3.05, 3.03, 3.07. (2 hilly, 3 flat). Felt flat in legs -> TT on road last Thurs, Sat, Tues taking a toll (usu. don't run on road that much).
Wt. 67kg

I felt like I trained hard. D thinks I should be doing longer reps. (*chortle*) To be continued.

Party's Over. Time to get serious.

Have been averaging around 130km/wk for the last 8 wks. Have been very consistent with my long runs - 2-2.5 hrs. Sessions have been going well, but not setting the world on fire, can't help but feel that training is directed towards 5s, 10s and half-marathons, when it should be directed towards marathons.
January - hoping to be a lot more mileage with emphasis on more long slow running, eg. 3 hr long runs, and the same again in Feb. Hopefully this will get me in good shape for Canberra in April.
With that in mind, I feel that if I concentrate on my diet, with less drinking (of alcohol :-), I should be competitive over the long distances next year. But saying all that, at the end of the day, I should just enjoy my running, and eventually get into the coach/mentor role.
(Honourable mention to baby Grete, who I forgot to mention in my new blog, for inspiring me to run better. Love, Dad). (*Dickhead*)

Last 8 weeks typical training:
Monday - 1 hour
Tuesday - 5 x 1km
Wednesday - 1h30m
Thursday - Fartlek
Friday - 1 hour
Saturday - Road time trial 3k (9.14 {course rec. 9.06})or 5.7k (17.45 {course rec. 17.04})/ race on track
Sunday - 2-2.5 hrs, not at Ourimbah (trying to refresh my mind - too many long runs done at O'Bah ;-)
