Have been averaging around 130km/wk for the last 8 wks. Have been very consistent with my long runs - 2-2.5 hrs. Sessions have been going well, but not setting the world on fire, can't help but feel that training is directed towards 5s, 10s and half-marathons, when it should be directed towards marathons.
January - hoping to be a lot more mileage with emphasis on more long slow running, eg. 3 hr long runs, and the same again in Feb. Hopefully this will get me in good shape for Canberra in April.
With that in mind, I feel that if I concentrate on my diet, with less drinking (of alcohol :-), I should be competitive over the long distances next year. But saying all that, at the end of the day, I should just enjoy my running, and eventually get into the coach/mentor role.
(Honourable mention to baby Grete, who I forgot to mention in my new blog, for inspiring me to run better. Love, Dad). (*Dickhead*)
Last 8 weeks typical training:
Monday - 1 hour
Tuesday - 5 x 1km
Wednesday - 1h30m
Thursday - Fartlek
Friday - 1 hour
Saturday - Road time trial 3k (9.14 {course rec. 9.06})or 5.7k (17.45 {course rec. 17.04})/ race on track
Sunday - 2-2.5 hrs, not at Ourimbah (trying to refresh my mind - too many long runs done at O'Bah ;-)

It's an honour to leave the first comment here mate.
I hope amongst all the running wisdom you'll impart here that you will also let your unique character shine through.
Your average runner could do a hell of a lot worse than to check this blog out regularly.
Cheers, Blue Dog.
""(usu. don't run on road that much)."""
One of reasons I have felt that with a world class half marathon your marathon PB is ordinary.... ditto DrJH, another grass trainer.
The fastest marathons are held on the road, therefore legs have to be conditioned to road fatigue.
cheers
